Im not only losing weight.. Im creating awareness and raising money!

When I decided to take part in the 12WBT, I knew I'd have one hell of a time getting the courage and determination together to be honest and open about my weight, and "Making a Change" to fix it. Enter Samuel Morris and the Samuel Morris Foundation. Could you imagine the world around you growing, moving and changing, without being able to be part of it? Samuel is a beautiful boy, but because of a near drowning he is now in a wheel chair, with sever disabilities as a result of recieving Hypxic Brain Injuries during the time of the accident. The amount of therapies, equipment and ongoing treatments that Samuel gets is phenomenal!... and not only is it phenomenal, its also expensive. He goes through it, Doctors and family never knowing if he's going to survive, and everytime he beats the odds and survives. This kid has so much fight left in him!!
And there behind him are his wonderful parents Jo and Michael, who are being taken on this insane, emotional ride. I take my hat off to them, they are truly amazing people. And what do truly amazing, selfless people do when they are faced with this traumatic and emotional experience? They think "there must be other people, other PARENTS going through this, facing the same costs as we are..." and the end result - The Samuel Morris Foundation. A foundation that raises money and awareness for kids that are like Samuel, that need ongoing treatments, therapies and equipment that cost soo much money, and that can be easily prevented with secure pool gates and swimming lessons.
Watching the Morris's go through this, I have always wanted to do SOMETHING, but never have! I've never known how I can make a difference, but with the 12WBT I hope to make at least 1 person aware of how terrible near drownings are, and how, in Western Sydney especially, there is not enough knowledge about what COULD and can happen if there are not proper fences and rules in place when kids are swimming. and wanting to raise money, it might make a difference in a families life that are going through the same thing that the Morris's are. Whether it's $1 for every kilo, or a donation for the City to Surf I will raise as much as I can for this charity.. and create awareness while doing so of course ;-)
